OC Premier gray capped off a great week going 4-1-1 and making the round of 32 before losing to AZ T-Rex Baseball from Scottsdale, Arizona. The tournament started off great with Jonathon Guzman (SDSU Commit) going 5 strong innings with 7 k’s for the win. Grant Lockwood and Jack Haggerty let the charge with 2 hits a piece.
In Game two OCP faced off against Trombly Baseball. Will St. Marseille was on the mound for Premier, he went 4 2/3 2 runs and 3 k’s before Nik Krutiak came in to close out the final 2 1/3 innings for the win. TB took the lead in the 5th and then in the 7th we hit back to back doubles after the first two guys reached base to take the lead. Aaron Casillas and Trent Overbeck had two hits a piece and Caden Connor and Jack Haggerty came in with huge RBI’s.
In Game three OCP played the tough So Cal Birds 2019. Christian Rodriguez (Miami Commit) did not dissapoint , going 5 1/3 with 8 k’s and 1 ER. grant Lockwood had two hits and an RBI and Aaron Casillas went 1-3, RBI. The game ended in a 3-3 tie due to time limit and pool play.
After the 3 Games the team was reseeded and played a talented CBA Bulldogs team. Gavin Kennedy ( CSUF Commit) was on the mound for Premier. GK was pretty special going 6 Inn with 8 k’s. Miles Malohn came in to close the door. The offense was bleek but found away to execute in situations to scratch 3 runs across. OCP won 3-2 and advanced to the round of 32 playoffs on Wednesday.
Playoff Matchup – OC Premier vs AZ T-Rex
OCP came out firing with 5 hits int he first and 4 runs to take an early lead. Nik krutiak was on the bump and he battled his way through some tough innings before giving up 4 runs in 3 inn. After 3 it was all tied up until the 5 inn when AZ took a two run lead on a HR and RBI Basehit. The offense went cold until the 7th inning. Up to this point we left 8 runners on base. However, our guys had a chance to win loading the bases in the 7th before a game ending ground ball DP. It was a solid run and I was proud of the group on how they battled. OCP Lost 6-4.
OCP On Thursday was paired up with the DRBA Halos from Arizona in a consolation game. The offense came alive knocking 8 runs to plate and 11 hits. Lockwood/Estrada/Licata all had two hits a piece. OCP Won 8-4
