The Winterfest was full of excitements and thrills for the 14u team this weekend. On Saturday they beat the So Cal Hitmen 9-2 and the Quakes Baseball Academy 5-4. The RDB team earned the semi-final seed on Sunday against the Trabuco Colts. RD had trouble handing the baseball in this game. They had a 4-0 lead going into the third inning before they made 4 consecutive errors with two outs to relinquish their lead. They took a 6-5 deficit into the bottom half of the 6th inning before RD came back to score two runs to take the lead and the game being called on time.

The win propelled the team to the championship game against the Los Angeles Baseball Academy. LABA was looking for some revenge after a 4-2 loss in the previous tournament. The 3 1/2 hour championship game had it all. RD took an early 9-4 lead before the wheels came off. In the 4th RD threw to bunts away and mis played a fly ball which brought LABA back with in two.  RD then gave up the lead in the 5th to go down by one . In the bottom half of the 5th RD scored two on a couple hits to take a 12-10 lead. In this inning Ramon Chaves took a malicious slide in at 3b that gave him an early exit to the hospital with a gash in his leg. The umpire apparantly thought it was a clean slide for a 14u game, however when you go cleats up and slide on top of the base we thought otherwise.  The team battled all the way to the end before losing 17-12 in the championship.

Congratulations to the team and we look forward to seeing LABA soon!!!!
