RDB 13U Lewis wins USSSA Bat Wars Tournament

RDB 13U Lewis remained hot in tournament play and won the 2011 Bat Wars AAA Tournament. Sean Paquet started game 1 on Saturday and pitched a great game. We made some mental mistakes on defense and ended up losing 7-6. The highlight of the game was when Daniel Jung crushed a homerun to right field. Justin Hendry added a single and walk and scored twice.  The team regrouped for game 2 on Saturday and came away with a 13-4 mercy of the Las Vegas Crush. Daniel Jung and Chris Burica combined on a strong pitching performance. Shawny Dumser was 2-2 with a walk, Burica was 3-4, and Tristan Lewis was 3-3 with a triple. Val Jenson added two hits including a great drag bunt. The team continued its offensive show by winning 12-0 in the first game on Sunday. Dumser got the start on the mound and proved to be too much for the Las Vegas Warriors. Brandon Chambers, Haydon Nix, and Jung added two hits apiece to lead the offense. Brandon Chambers dominated the IE Wolfpack in the 2nd game on Sunday. He pitched a complete game and stuck out 7. That win set up a rematch against the Riverside Expos in the Championship game. The 13U Lewis team faced off against the Expos in the Championship game of an earlier tournament and was mercied. The team decided that this time would be different. Chris Burica pitched a brilliant  4 and 2/3 innings. The offense got going early in the 1st inning when Haydon Nix hit a mammoth grand slam to right center field. Burica also helped the offense by chipping in two hits. The team defense was led by Caleb Choe, Connor Seaman, and Grant King. They made some great plays in key situations. Shawny Dumser came in to pitch the last couple of innings to seal the win. The team played great and came out on top 8-5!!
